Reboot, Reboot, Reboot

Rebooting your computer will fix more things than you can imagine.

I got a call yesterday from someone who was frantic because all of her documents had “disappeared.” I asked her several questions and she was almost too upset to respond. I suggested that she reboot and call me back. She called back a few minutes later declaring my genius.

Before you start calling around or searching the web for solutions, reboot your computer. If the cursor is frozen and the keyboard is unresponsive, hold the power button in until you hear it click. Wait a couple of minutes before you turn the computer back on. This clears the RAM and gives the computer time to “forget” what broke it if the issue isn’t serious.
